Question

Who was the last player to intercept a pass and throw an interception in the same game?

Answer

Tony Dungy. Dungy was a quarterback at the University of Minnesota. He signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent, and they turned him into a defensive back. In a 1977 game in the Astromdome against the Houston Oilers, Dungy intercepted a pass. Terry Bradshaw and Mike Kruczek were knocked out of that game, so the Steelers plugged in Dungy at quarterback. He completed 3 of 8 passes for 43 yards, with 2 interceptions. Dungy’s original NFL team (Pittsburgh) plays in the state where he played his college ball, which brings this question to mind. Per pro-football-reference.com, this happened on six other occasions in the ‘50s. Johnny Lujack of Bears in 1951 twice raised it to another level, by throwing touchdowns passes in games where he also intercepted passes and threw interceptions.
