Question

Miles Sanders thus far has totaled 718 yards (578 rushing, 140 receiving) but hasn’t scored any touchdowns. Who was the last running back to finish a season with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage without scoring a touchdown? The player won three Super Bowls during his career.

Answer

Kevin Faulk, New England. In 2003, Faulk ran for 638 yards, with another 440 yards on 48 receptions, but never got in the end zone (on a touchdown, at least – he scored a 2-point conversion in the Super Bowl that year). Three other players (all running backs) in the Super Bowl era have gone over 1,000 yards without scoring a touchdown: Clark Gaines (’79 Jets) 1,124, Kenny King (’81 Raiders) 1,044 and Marcel Shipp (’03 Cardinals) 1,014.
