Question

In the Super Bowl era, what are the only two teams that have started Hall of Fame quarterbacks in consecutive games? That is, one week they started a quarterback who went on to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and the next week they started a different quarterback, who also went on to be inducted at Canton.

Answer

49ers and Chargers. San Francisco, I trust, most were able to sniff out (with Joe Montana and Steve Young). San Diego is more difficult. Johnny Unitas is best known for his work with the Baltimore Colts, but his last four starts came for the Chargers in 1973. Then they turned things over to youngster Dan Fouts, who went on to have a great career of his own. The Colts and Chargers, of course, will tangle tonight on MNF.

Yes the 49ers were a layup. My other guess was Lamonica , Stabler though I thought there was some years between them

I was looking at Lamonica and Stabler during the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception. That was about when the torch was being passed. Lamonica started the game, with Stabler coming in for the fourth quarter and sparking the Raiders. If Stabler had simply started that game, maybe the Raiders would have won it. But they still were ready to put him in the starting lineup. Lamonica started the first three games of 1973 before The Snake took over for good.

Lamonica's not a Hall of Famer either. Yet.

I suppose one day the Packers will be a correct answer for this question, with Favre starting the last game of the 2007 season and Rodgers starting the first game of the 2008 season.
