Question
Malik Willis has started three games as a pro. He didn’t throw for 100 yards in any of them, and he didn’t thrown a touchdown in any of them. What was the last team that had a quarterback who did the same (in the first three starts of his career)? (Asking for the team rather than the player because it’s a wildly obscure former eighth-round pick out of tiny Minot State in North Dakota.)
Answer
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 1977, Randy Hedberg (as a rookie) started three of their first four games, all losses. He got back in the lineup in Week 12 and struggled in that one too, completing 4 of 15 passes for 36 yards, with 2 interceptions, in a 10-0 loss against Chicago. That was the team’s 26th straight loss, and the last time Hedberg would play in an NFL game. The Buccaneers got the first win in franchise history the following week at New Orleans.
