Question
What team has had the most Hall of Fame coaches? This franchise has had seven such coaches. All but one of them, oddly, has a losing record as a head coach with this team.
Answer
Arizona Cardinals. Though none of their seven HOF coaches ever coached them in Arizona (and only one even coached them in St. Louis). From way back: Guy Chamberlain, Jimmy Conzelman, Curly Lambeau, Ernie Nevers, Joe Stydahar and Walt Kiesling. All were better known for their work as either players or with other teams (or both). Don Coryell is going in this year. He made the largest mark as a coach, with his innovations in the passing game. Coryell’s most notable work as a head coach came with the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Chargers in the ‘70s and ‘80s. In Coryell’s five seasons with the Cardinals, his teams went 42-27-1, with a pair of NFC East titles in 1974 and 1975 (but those teams went 0-2 in playoff games, losing against the Vikings and Rams).
