Every Saturday morning, I'll take a quick look at all the week's games, offering my own brief take on what I think will happen, as well as touching on significant injury news since our Weekly came out. I'll check in over the course of the day to answer questions, too.
What follows is a brief look at all the games with how I'd react in my own lineups to injury developments or other news. The official rankings are the ones in the Weekly. Those take precedence. But sometimes players are very close, and in those cases I'm glad to offer opinions on how I'd approach those situations. Sometimes I like certain players more or less than Ian, and sometimes I have different risk tolerance with injuries etc.
NOTE: I've got some family stuff going on this weekend and my answers to questions will not be as prompt, and perhaps not as long-winded when they are answered. Rest assured, though, I will respond by the end of the day. OK, on to the games!
Colts at Ravens: Everyone who picked up and/or started Zack Moss last week, congrats. Be careful using him here, as the Colts offense in general and the ground game in particular might struggle. No Anthony Richardson, Gardner Minshew not a downgrade as a passer. Ravens do have some injuries, which helps a little. Justice Hill (toe) won't play, so Gus Edwards will lead the way, with either Melvin Gordon or Kenyan Drake (presumably Gordon, signed first) the No. 2.
Titans at Browns: We know the drill with the Titans defense. Near impossible to run on. Very friendly to throw on. Browns receivers and the passing game grade out well, Jerome Ford not quite as well. Kareem Hunt might get some passing downs work, but I wouldn't use him this week. Tough matchup for the Titans offense, I'm using Derrick Henry obviously but the various receivers, tread with caution. DeAndre Hopkins has an ankle injury that makes him uncertain to play.
Falcons at Lions: Should be a higher-scoring affair. No David Montgomery, so Jahmyr Gibbs should be very good (Craig Reynolds won't play quite as much). The Gibbs versus Bijan Robinson angle is intriguing; Robinson should also be very good. And I like the key receivers (London, St. Brown) as well. Should be a higher-scoring game.
Saints at Packers: Green Bay not being very helpful as far as Aaron Jones and Christian Watson. I wouldn't really want to use either, and I'm hesitant to use AJ Dillon because Jones might play, and Dillon isn't very good. For the Saints, should be mostly a Kendre Miller backfield, and there's some flier appeal, but Tony Jones will mix in. Kind of a tough game for handicapping purposes, I'll defer to the rankings on most questions. And there may be more injury status updates by tomorrow morning.
Texans at Jaguars: Are we too low on C.J. Stroud and company? I don't want o overrate his huge passing game against the Colts last week. Jaguars defense better. But Nico Collins viable and I do think Dameon Pierce will start to get on track. Jaguars offense looks fine and no Zay Jones which helps the other wide receivers.
Broncos at Dolphins: Rough start for the Broncos and I don't think it will get better here. Miami's offense should be very good. For Denver, difficult to latch in on a wide receiver, presumably Jerry Jeudy will be better a week removed from injury. Denver will have to put up some points, just doesn't seem likely there will be enough. Hitting on long bombs won't happen every week. The assumption is that Jaylen Waddle will be cleared from his concussion, though that needs to be confirmed.
Chargers at Vikings: Points galore in this game, and I'm comfortable using all key starters and yes both running backs, despite last week's lesser games. Matchups matter, and both should be productive. I don't actually have Mattison anywhere and the leagues where I drafted Austin Ekeler and my team really misses him I don't have Kelley, alas. Anyway, thumbs up on key starters.
Patriots at Jets: Offenses best avoided here. Reliable targets like Garrett Wilson and Hunter Henry are the extent of what I'll consider. Rhamondre Stevenson yes and Breece Hall maybe. And the defenses.
Bills at Commanders: I'm not a big fan of Sam Howell. I think the Bills have a defense that can make him look bad. Better matchup for Brian Robinson. Bills passing game should be solid, I'm fine using those guys, and James Cook for his passing game role.
Panthers at Seahawks: So Andy Dalton starts this week, and it's not a tough defensive matchup. Seattle has some injuries. Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst and Miles Sanders look about the same as they would with Bryce Young, arguably better. DK Metcalf says he's fine from the rib injury he picked up last week and I'll take him at his word. Kenneth Walker should be good in this game.
Cowboys at Cardinals: Nice matchup for Dallas, obviously. I'm actually looking forward to them playing some better teams in the future, however, to have more competition (and to need to do more on offense than they have so far). I think their key players will be fine, but I'd prefer a slugfest with the Eagles to shutting down the Cardinals. But use your key Cowboys. James Conner and Hollywood Brown for the Cardinals, sure.
Bears at Kansas City: Discovered last week that some people are placing more stock in my Survivor Pool picks than I anticipated. Sorry to hear that, those who picked Detroit last week. Should have included a disclaimer. I enjoy/think too much about those pools, but don't consider myself an expert in that area. That said, I'm going with Kansas City, with one of the league's best offenses (even though it hasn't played like it yet) against one of the league's worst defenses. Tip of the week, stash Roschon Johnson where available, he might move past Khalil Herbert before long. I like Isiah Pacheco this week, with the minor worry of a hamstring issue a consideration but not something that will keep me from starting him over comparable or inferior options.
Steelers at Raiders: Raiders defense doesn't do much. Steelers defense has a couple of injuries. Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs and Jakobi Meyers all viable. Maybe Najee Harris has a good game, better matchup than previously. George Pickens a must-start for me right now.
Eagles at Bucs: I expect to get some D'Andre Swift questions. He will probably be the lead back. But it's not certain he'll be featured, with Kenneth Gainwell returning. And the matchup isn't as soft as the Vikings defense he ripped up. I'm not using Gainwell, but I don't feel 100 percent confident in Swift. If you do, hey, that's cool. I am a fan of the Bucs passing game against the Eagles' banged-up secondary.
Rams at Bengals: Second Monday night game, it's like they don't even care about those of us trying to put out a Weekly on Wednesday mornings. It sounds like Joe Burrow is probably going to play? Hard to be sure. I don't think anyone has the luxury of benching JaMarr Chase and I'm probably not benching Tee Higgins any more either after last week. Definitely rolling out Puka Nacua, oblique injury and all. And Mixon and Kyren too. Super Bowl rematch, let's go.
Again, answers to questions might not be as timely, but I'll do my best to get everyone answers eventually. When in doubt, stick with the rankings. And enjoy the games.
