Just two days after it was announced that the LA Rams were signing Carson Wentz as back-up QB to starter Matthew Stafford, the veteran signed a 1-year deal worth $732,500 (prorated amount of a $1.165M base salary) and a $150,000 signing bonus.
Rams' QB Matthew Stafford was out last Sunday's game against the Packers with a thumb injury, leading to Brett Rypien stepping in as the starter, suffering a 20-3 defeat. Rypien was released after Wentz was signed this week.
While HC Sean McVay expressed optimism for Stafford's return by next Sunday's game—the Rams have a bye this week—their decision to sign Carson Wentz serves as an insurance if Stafford is unavailable.
Wentz, 30, spent 2022 with the Washington Commanders, appearing in just 8 games and throwing for 1,755 yards on 172-for-276 passing with 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
