Question
After going 2-12 in their first season, the Seattle Seahawks were rewarded with the 2nd pick of the 1977 draft. What did they do with that selection?
Answer
They traded it to Dallas. The Cowboys selected Tony Dorsett, who went on to win a Super Bowl as a rookie and finished with a Hall of Fame career. Seattle with its Dorsett picks selected offensive linemen Steve August (14th) and Tom Lynch (30th), linebacker Terry Beeson (41st) and a late second-round pick that was traded for receiver Duke Ferguson. This wasn’t necessarily an outside-the-box flyer; Dorsett had told the Seahawks he wouldn't play for them.
