Jaguars sign QB E.J. Perry to practice squad

Starter Trevor Lawrence on concussion protocol

In the wake of Trevor Lawrence's injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars are making strategic moves to bolster their quarterback lineup. Lawrence, the team's starting quarterback, is currently in concussion protocol following an injury, leading the Jaguars to reconnect with E.J. Perry, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

E.J. Perry had a previous stint with the Jaguars and offers familiarity with the team's offensive strategy under head coach Doug Pederson and OC Press Taylor. This familiarity is crucial, especially as the team navigates the uncertainty surrounding Lawrence's availability for upcoming games.

The nature of Lawrence's concussion means his return to play is subject to the NFL's concussion protocol guidelines and if Lawrence is unable to play in the Jaguars' next game, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard is expected to start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Jaguars' remaining schedule includes several crucial matchups, and the team's performance in these games will be pivotal in their season, particularly in the absence of their primary quarterback. The signing of Perry provides depth and an additional option for the Jaguars as they adapt to this challenging situation.

The 8-6 Jaguars play Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Tennessee for the final three games. While they sit at the top of the AFC South, they are in a three-way tie for first after dropping three in a row.

However, the Jaguars hold the tiebreaker thanks to a 3-1 record against the Colts and Texans. Jacksonville also has the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Colts after sweeping them and the Jaguars would also likely win the tiebreaker over the Texans with a much better divisional record (4-1) than Houston (1-2).
