The Buffalo Bills have reactivated cornerback Kaiir Elam from injured reserve, as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Elam, a former first-round pick, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since being placed on IR on November 2nd.

Elam's return could be a significant lift for the Bills as they prepare for their Week 17 matchup against the Patriots. Despite facing challenges in his first two NFL seasons, including limited playtime due to injuries and performance issues, Elam's potential contribution can't be overlooked. In his two seasons with the Bills, he's recorded two interceptions and defended four passes over 16 games.

General manager Brandon Beane had previously emphasized the importance of Elam having ample time to recover fully.

Given the Bills' secondary has been hit hard by injuries this season, Elam's return is a positive development. His presence could prove valuable for the team's final regular-season games and potentially into the playoffs as the Bills face AFC East rivals New England Patriots (4-11) and 1st place Miami Dolphins (11-4). The Bills currently sit in 2nd place and are vying for a playoff spot.

According to the New York Times playoff simulator, the Buffalo Bills currently have an 89 percent chance of reaching the postseason. This probability increases to 97 percent if they secure a win against the Patriots and drops to 45 percent with a loss.
