Joey Votto leads active players with most hits

First baseman Joey Votto tops the list of active players with the most hits coming into the 2024 MLB season with 2,135. While the 2010 National League Most Valuable Player hasn’t announced his retirement, he is a free agent after playing 17 seasons for the Cincinnati Reds.

At second is fellow first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has 2,114 hits. The 2020 National League MVP is five years younger than Votto but will play the final season under his six-year, $162 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Freeman played at a high level during his 14th MLB season. He finished third in the NL MVP voting after accumulating a career-high 211 hits, 102 runs batted in, and 29 home runs. Freeman batted .331/.410/.567/.976 in 637 at-bats.

Elvis Andrus is third on the list with 2,091 hits. Like Votto, he is a free agent after playing the 2023 season with the Chicago White Sox. In 112 games, Andrus has 94 hits, 44 RBIs, and six home runs. Andrus spent most of his career with the Texas Rangers before playing for the White Sox and the Oakland Athletics.

Outfielder Andrew McCutchen is fourth in the list of active players with the most hits. After playing one season for the Milwaukee Brewers, he returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates, tallying 100 hits in 112 games. He also had 43 RBIs and 12 home runs in 390 at-bats.

Completing the top five is Jose Altuve, who finished his 13th season with the Houston Astros last year. The 2017 American League MVP and six-time Silver Slugger collected 112 hits, 51 RBIs, and 17 home runs in 360 at-bats.
