Twins sign veteran relief pitcher Jay Jackson

FanSided’s Major League Baseball insider Robert Murray reported that the Minnesota Twins signed veteran relief pitcher Jay Jackson. The transaction becomes official when he passes a physical. The 36-year-old pitcher has played for five MLB teams in as many seasons.

Jackson suited up for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He had a 3-1 record and a 2.12 earned run average in 29.2 innings. Jackson struck out 27 batters and gave up 18 hits. Before Toronto, he played for the San Francisco Giants in 2021 and the Atlanta Braves in 2022.

Before returning to MLB, Jackson played for the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball for one season and the Hiroshima Toyo Carp from 2016 to 2018.

While he had his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2015, he has been a part of the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Milwaukee Brewers' farm systems. However, he never made it to the majors with those teams.

Jackson has a 3.50 ERA with 107 strikeouts in his five MLB seasons. However, he will join a Twins relief pitching rotation that FanGraphs projects as the American League's best bullpen. He will compete for a roster spot with Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, Caleb Thielbar, Brock Stewart, Josh Staumont, Jorge Alcala, and Kody Funderburk. He will rely on his fastball and slider if he makes it to the rotation.
