Guardians will travel the farthest for 2024 Spring Training

There is only one week before the 30 Major League Baseball teams commence Spring Training for the 2024 season. Finally, baseball is back, and all roads lead to the traditional Opening Day on March 28. However, the distance teams must travel to their training grounds is unequal.

MLB analyst Jay Cuda made a table showing the approximate distance each team must travel to their Spring Training location. While all training sites are in Florida or Arizona, the Cleveland Guardians will travel the farthest, covering 1,767 miles from the North Coast to Goodyear, Arizona.

Contrary to popular belief, the Toronto Blue Jays won’t make the longest trip because they are eighth on the list, with 1,096 miles from Canada to Dunedin, Florida.

Coincidentally, three National League Central teams are in the top five. The Cincinnati Reds will travel around 1,599 miles from The Queen City to Goodyear. The Milwaukee Brewers are third with 1,455 miles to Phoenix, while the Chicago Cubs are fifth, for they must cover 1,436 miles from the Windy City to Mesa, Arizona.

Chicago’s other MLB team, the White Sox, is in fourth, traveling 1,454 miles from the Southside to Glendale. Conversely, the two 2023 World Series participants won’t have to endure a long ride to Spring Training. The Texas Rangers will cover 890 miles from Arlington to Surprise, Arizona.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks can pack their cars and drive about 20 miles to Salt River Fields in Scottsdale to hold spring training. Scottsdale is also where the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants will conduct their preparations.

Like in previous seasons, pitchers and catchers report earlier than position players. Spring Training lasts until March 26, two days before all teams start their campaigns.

Here’s the complete list of estimated distance from the home field to Spring Training for all MLB teams.
