The San Francisco 49ers have the opportunity to win their sixth Super Bowl title in 43 years. They can achieve that feat by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aside from adding another Lombardi Trophy to their collection, they can extend their lead for most playoff wins in NFL history. The NFL’s official Twitter account shared that the Niners have the most postseason wins with 38, one more than the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers. The Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers are tied for third with 36.

San Francisco gained many of its playoff victories during the Kyle Shanahan era. He helped the franchise reach four NFC Championship Games in the last five seasons. Injuries decimated the squad the only time they didn’t make it (2020).

But out of those trips to the NFC title game, they made it to only one Super Bowl, which they lost to the Chiefs four years ago. Shanahan and 49ers players from that losing squad still want to avenge their defeat.

However, to defeat the defending Super Bowl champions, they must perform better than they did in their previous playoff games. A last-minute rushing touchdown by Christian McCaffrey and a Dre Greenlaw interception sealed their come-from-behind victory against the Green Bay Packers. A week later, they overhauled a 17-point first-half deficit to win by three.

While the 49ers are slightly favored to win the game, they must take the fight to the Chiefs to cap off a fantastic 2023 season.
