Gary Sanchez, Brewers agree to one-year deal

Catcher Gary Sanchez will join the Milwaukee Brewers on a one-year deal worth $7 million. His deal includes an option after the first year. He played his ninth Major League Baseball season for the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres.

Sanchez finished with a .217 batting average, 19 home runs, and 47 RBIs in 75 games. Before playing for the Mets and the Padres, he suited up for the Minnesota Twins, batting .205 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs.

In his earlier years, Sanchez made two All-Star appearances with the New York Mets. While his statistics aren’t eye-popping, baseball experts believe the Brewers signed Sanchez to entice two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.

Snell remains a free agent after a solid season with Sanchez as his catcher. His command from home plate enabled Snell to find success in San Diego.

Sanchez started his MLB career with the Yankees in 2015. Two years later, he earned a Silver Slugger Award after hitting .278 with 90 RBI and 33 home runs.

His stint with the Yankees ended in March 2022 when he and Gio Urshela were traded to the Twins for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Josh Donaldson, and Ben Rortvedt. He also signed with the San Francisco Giants but was assigned to Triple-A.
