Rangers sign Adolis Garcia to a two-year deal

The Texas Rangers signed outfielder Adolis Garcia to a two-year, $14 million deal. This contract avoids two years of arbitration and could be worth up to $20.25 million if he satisfies conditions for incentives like individual awards and plate appearances.

Garcia is coming off his best season in Major League Baseball, tallying career highs in home runs (39), batting average (.245), and on-base + slugging percentage (.836). He also had 107 runs batted in and 136 hits in 632 plate appearances.

Beyond those numbers, the Rangers will remember him forever for his heroics during the MLB playoffs. He became the American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player after driving a home run in four straight games.

An oblique injury cut his World Series stint short, but the Rangers still won their first Commissioner’s Trophy. It was a perfect ending for a season wherein he earned an All-Star selection and a Gold Glove Award with a .981 fielding percentage and 283 putouts.

Garcia made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018, two years after defecting from Cuba. In December 2019, the Cardinals traded him to the Rangers for cash considerations. He earned his first All-Star selection in 2021 after batting .243 with 31 home runs and 90 RBIs. Garcia is a career .244 batter with 97 home runs and 299 RBIs.

With Garcia signed for another two years, the Rangers will have a strong lineup for their title defense. He, Corey Seager, and Marcus Semien will lead the way for the defending champions.
