Marlins acquire Nick Gordon from Twins

The Miami Marlins have completed a trade with the Minnesota Twins, acquiring outfielder Nick Gordon. In return, the Twins received left-handed pitcher Steve Okert. FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray was the first to report this transaction.

The Twins selected Gordon as the fifth overall pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft, and he made his major league debut seven years later. Gordon batted .240 on 48 hits from 200 at-bats in his first year in the majors. He also had 23 runs batted in and four home runs in 73 games.

The following season, Gordon took on a more prominent role for the Twins, playing in 136 games due to injuries suffered by other key players. He increased his batting average to .272 and his RBI tally to 50.

However, it was his turn to undergo the injury bug after fracturing his shin off a foul ball to himself last May. After playing 34 MLB games last season, Gordon returned to Triple-A Baseball but did not return in time for the regular season.

The Twins traded him after the results of his arbitration hearing came out. Instead of earning his desired $1.25 million salary, the panel decided on a $900,000 salary for Gordon. As a versatile player, he has played all outfielder positions and all infielder spots except first baseman.

Meanwhile, Okert had a 2.89 ERA in 87.1 innings with the Marlins. He will join Caleb Thielbar, Brock Stewart, Dylan Floro, and Griffin Jax in the bullpen rotation.
