Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell remains unsigned even with Spring Training for the 2024 Major League Baseball season underway. It’s not that he’s not getting offers. Instead, he got one from the New York Yankees that Snell and his agent, Scott Boras, turned down.
MLB writer Dan Clark tweeted that the Yankees offered Snell a six-year, $168 million contract last month. However, Boras rejected the offer, leaving his client a free agent.

Snell played for the San Diego Padres last season, earning a 14-9 record win 32 starts. He led all starting pitchers with a 2.25 earned run average and an 182 ERA+. He struck out 234 batters and had a 1.189 WHIP in 180 innings.
Blake Snell played his first five MLB seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, earning the American League Cy Young Award in 2018, making him the seventh pitcher to win the most prestigious individual award for pitchers in both leagues. He finished with a league-leading 21 wins and an AL-leading 1.89 ERA.
The Rays traded him to the Padres in 2020 for Blake Hunt, Luis Patiño, Francisco Mejia, and Cole Wilcox. However, he struggled in his first two seasons with San Diego, finishing the 2021 season with a 7-6 mark and 2022 at 8-10.
A month earlier, Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer projected Snell’s next contract at three years, $100 million, with opt-outs after 2024 and 2025.
