Yoshinobu Yamamoto impresses in Spring Training debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers will spend $385.625 million for pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s services. That includes his $50.625 million posting fee to the Orix Buffaloes and his 12-year, $325 million contract.

After his Spring Training debut, that massive sum of money looks to be a good investment after the three-time Nippon Professional Baseball Pacific League Most Valuable Player displayed his talent against the Texas Rangers.

Yamamoto made 19 pitches in two innings; 16 were strikes. He gave up one hit and struck out three, including All-MLB First Team member and Silver Slugger awardee Marcus Semien. He also fanned Nathaniel Lowe and Leody Taveras.

While Yamamoto showed excellent pitching, the Dodgers lost the game to the Rangers 6-4. The defending World Series champions scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of runs by Cameron Cauley, Benjamin Blackwell, Travis Jankowski, and Elier Hernandez.

It’s the Dodgers’ first loss in Spring Training while the Rangers improved to 4-1.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow are scheduled to start for the Dodgers when they take on the San Diego Padres for the 2024 MLB season’s opening in Seoul, South Korea. Before those two matches, the Dodgers will play the Kiwoom Heroes and the Korean national baseball team in a pair of exhibition matches.
