Question
Rumbles suggest that Atlanta is interested in signing Kirk Cousins. Should that occur, the NFC South could wind up with three transplant quarterbacks (potentially joining Carr & Mayfield -- quarterbacks who previously started for other teams). What division once featured not three but four such quarterbacks, each starting all 16 regular-season games? In the season in question, each quarterback broke his team’s record for touchdown passes.
Answer
NFC Central in 1995, with Brett Favre (38 TD passes), Warren Moon (33), Scott Mitchell (32) and Erik Kramer (29). The fifth quarterback in that division (Trent Dilfer) was drafted by his team; he also started all 16 games. There have been other divisions with four transplants as primary starters, including the AFC West in 2001 (Hasselbeck, Flutie, Gannon, Green), but that NFC Central group was more interesting, given all the touchdown passes. More obscurely, the AFC Central in 1996 featured five quarterbacks who previously played for other teams and each started at least 12 games – Blake, Testaverde, Tomczak, Brunell, Chandler.
