Eddie Rosario, Nationals Agree to One-Year, $4 Million Deal

The Washington Nationals and the Eddie Rosario agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million. It will be made official once Rosario passes a physical. His addition will bolster the depth of Washington’s outfield and add a solid left-handed batter to their roster.

Rosario last played for the Atlanta Braves, hitting .255/.305/.450/.755 with 74 runs batted in and 21 home runs in 478 at-bats. However, the Braves declined their 2024 option for Rosario, worth $9 million, making him a free agent.

The Puerto Rican player can address their need on the left field. It’s the position he played the most throughout his nine-year career, and the Nationals do not have a definitive starter at that spot. Therefore, Rosario can compete for that role with Stone Garrett, who is still recovering from a broken fibula.

If Garrett needs a more extended recovery period, Rosario is an able replacement. In nine MLB seasons, he has hit .268 with 548 RBIs, 159 home runs, and 1,011 hits in 3,768 at-bats.

Eddie Rosario started his Major League Baseball career with the Minnesota Twins in 2015. Six years later, the Cleveland Indians signed him to a one-year, $8 million deal. However, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves for Pablo Sandoval. He played the last three seasons with the Braves before the team declined his option.

Including his impending contract with the Nationals, Spotrac estimates his career earnings at $39.3 million.
