Brayan Bello, Red Sox Agree to Six-Year Contract

ESPN Major League Baseball insider Kiley McDaniel reported that right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a six-year, $55 million contract extension. The deal includes a seventh-year club option for $21 million.

The pitcher from the Dominican Republic went 12-11 with a 4.24 earned run average in 2023, his second season with the Red Sox. He struck out 132 batters and had a 1.338 WHIP in 157 innings. He achieved these numbers despite dealing with an inflamed right elbow early in the season.

During his rookie season in Boston, he went 2-8 with a 4.71 ERA in 57.1 innings.

Bello has been with the Red Sox organization since July 2017, when they signed him as an international free agent. A year later, he played for the Dominican Summer League Red Sox and the Gulf Coast League Red Sox.

He began the 2022 season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. In May, two months before he finally joined the Red Sox’s major league roster, Bello was promoted to Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. He made his MLB debut on July 6, 2022, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Brayan Bello will join the Red Sox’s starting pitcher rotation, which also includes Kutter Crawford, Tanner Houck, Nick Pivetta, and Garrett Whitlock. Bello returned to the MLB roster last season after Whitlock was placed on the injured list.
