Cornerback Taron Johnson agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. The deal is worth up to $31 million and includes an average annual salary of $10.3 million.

The Bills selected Johnson in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played 11 games during his rookie season, tallying 42 tackles, three pass deflections, a forced fumble, and an interception.

Two years later, he became one of Buffalo’s starting cornerbacks, finishing with 94 tackles, seven passes defended, a forced fumble, a sack, and an interception. Since then, Johnson collected 76 tackles in 2021 and 90 in 2022.

Last season, the former Weber State standout became a Second-Team All-Pro after finishing with 98 tackles, eight passes defended, three forced fumbles, a sack, and a fumble recovery.

In 2018, Johnson signed a four-year, $3.1 million rookie scale contract with Buffalo. Before that contract expired, he signed another three-year, $24 million deal with the AFC East squad. Spotrac estimates his career earnings at $21.6 million after six seasons, and his impending deal will double that amount.

Johnson became an invaluable part of the team after the Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White. They also bid farewell to Jordan Poyer (now with the Miami Dolphins) and Micah Hyde.

According to Over The Cap, with Johson secured for the long term, the Bills have $7.4 million of cap room.
