The Detroit Lions released cornerback Cameron Sutton two weeks after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant following an alleged domestic violence case. Aside from the warrant, the Sheriff’s Office released his “Wanted” poster, saying he is wanted for “domestic battery for strangulation.”
The police also included information about Sutton’s vehicle and contact details for individuals who will share information about his whereabouts.

According to Florida state law, domestic violence by strangulation can result in imprisonment for up to five years. Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office has also tried contacting Sutton’s attorney.
The authorities responded to a call early on March 7 at a house in Lutz, Florida. Sutton allegedly battered a woman before leaving the scene. The police have continued searching for Sutton after failing to turn himself in after the warrant was issued.
During the 2023 offseason, the Lions signed Sutton to a three-year, $33 million contract. He started in all 20 games for Detroit (including the playoffs) last season and finished with 65 tackles, six passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Before joining the Lions, Sutton played six seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The former Tennessee standout has 233 tackles, nine interceptions, six forced fumbles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery in seven seasons.
Spotrac estimates Sutton’s career earnings at $24.2 million. Meanwhile, the Lions designated him as a post-June 1 release, splitting his $12.6 million cap hit over two seasons. Detroit will likely absorb a $2.18 million dead cap in 2024 and $6.54 million in 2025. The Lions also voided Sutton’s $10.5 million salary guarantee in the upcoming season.
