Elly De La Cruz finished his first Major League Baseball season with 13 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 91 hits for the Cincinnati Reds. While they failed to enter the National League postseason, De La Cruz completed a five-game hitting streak to end the year.
The Dominican infielder picked up where he left off by having a hit in each of the Reds’ first six games in the 2024 season, extending his streak to 11. He started the year with one hit in three at-bats and two runs against the Washington Nationals on Opening Day.

He followed it with another hit in their second match against Washington and another in their series closer. The streak is alive throughout their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Of his six hits, De La Cruz has two doubles and a triple. He is hitting .250/.280/.417 after 24 at-bats.
Keeping his bat hot allowed the Reds to stay with their rivals in the NL Central. They have the same number of victories (4) as the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers and are one game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates.
But while he registered a hit in six games, he must improve his plate discipline because he has 12 strikeouts in six games.
De La Cruz can extend his hitting streak when he and the Reds open their series against the New York Mets on April 5.
