Mike Trout to Undergo Knee Surgery

Mike Trout is dealing with a roadblock just when he was having a fantastic start to the 2024 Major League Baseball season. Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian announced that the three-time American League Most Valuable Player will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus tear on his left knee.

Despite the extensive playing time he will miss, there is a glimmer of hope for the Los Angeles Angels and their fans. The nine-time Silver Slugger Award winner could potentially make a comeback later in the season. Before the injury, he was leading all MLB players with ten home runs and had a batting average of .220/.325/.541 in 126 plate appearances.

This knee injury is just another setback for Mike Trout since his 2019 AL MVP win. From 2012 to 2019, he was a consistent player, participating in at least 114 regular-season games. However, after his third MVP win, he played over 100 games only once in the next three seasons, excluding the shortened 2020 season.

Hand, back, and calf injuries have hampered his return to top form. He played only 36 games in 2021 and 82 in 2023. In 2022, he hit .283/.369/.630 with 40 home runs and 80 RBIs. Those numbers led to his tenth All-Star selection and another Silver Slugger.

Worst yet, the Angels could struggle to find wins while Mike Trout is away. They are at 11-19, one win better than the Houston Astros, the worst team in the American League West.
