Connor Wong On Target With His Hitting

Catcher Connor Wong has been one of the Boston Red Sox's steadier batters. Last season, he hit .288/.385/.673 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs in 403 plate appearances over 126 games. This year, he is starting strong, hitting .351/.380/.582 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 75 plate appearances.

On May 1, Wong had three hits (two doubles), an RBI, and a run against the San Francisco Giants. He hit .333/.359/.600 in April with 20 hits and 12 RBIs in 60 at-bats.

Wong's standout performances have been a sight to behold. He's had multiple hits in six games, but his April 24 game against the Cleveland Guardians truly stood out. In that game, he was a perfect four-for-four, hitting two home runs, three RBIs, and ten total bases. Wong has had four games with at least four bases and has only failed to register a hit in six games.

Wong's hitting prowess has been instrumental in the Boston Red Sox's success. He helped them finish April with a commendable 15-11 record. His consistent performance has kept the team in close contention with the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees for the American League East lead.

To start the 2024 MLB season, Wong had three hits in seven at-bats in two March games. Fast-forward to May, and he leads the Red Sox in batting average. He is among only four Boston players averaging above .300 (Rob Refsnyder, Wilyer Abreu, Tyler O'Neill).

Through May 2, Wong is second in hits (trailing Jarren Duran) and third in RBIs (behind Cedanne Rafaela and Duran) among Red Sox players.
