Question
Jacoby Brissett likely will be starting for the Patriots in Week 1. He last started for them in 2016 – eight years ago. What quarterback once went 14 years between starts for a team? This other quarterback was a third-round pick; he did his most notable work with a different franchise, in one season throwing a team-record 29 touchdown passes.
Answer
Matt Schaub. Schaub started one game for Atlanta in his second year, in 2005. He was a backup behind Michael Vick at that time. Schaub spent seven years with Houston, throwing 29 TDs in 2009 (along with a league-high 4,770 yards). Late in his career, he returned to Atlanta, with his final start coming in 2019.
