William Contreras is making the case for being the best catcher in Major League Baseball. His contributions have helped the Milwaukee Brewers stay on top of the National League Central at 26-17, 1.5 games in front of the Chicago Cubs.
He’s been on a tear lately with a nine-game hitting streak and a 23-game on-base streak. His hitting streak spans games against the Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He had five multi-hit games during that stretch, including six hits in two games against Pittsburgh.
Contreras had a three-hit game versus the Cardinals on May 9 and three hits in two games against the Royals on May 8 and 9, starting the streak. Throughout that stretch, Contreras collected seven RBIs and a home run.
Aside from his hits and for reaching base in 40 of Milwaukee’s 43 games, he also leads all players with 39 runs. He had ten runs during the same hitting streak, six of which occurred during their three-game series with the Cardinals. Those runs helped the Brewers win six of their last nine games, including the May 14 and 15 contests against the Pirates.

Contreras is hitting .359/.434/.553 with 61 hits, 34 RBIs, and six home runs in 170 at-bats. The Venezuelan catcher has 94 total bases, 13 doubles, and a .987 OPS. He and the Brewers will try to continue their winning ways when they start their three-game series on the road against the Houston Astros.
