Yankees Take AL Best Record After Twins Shutout

The New York Yankees have won three straight games and nine of their last 11 to claim the American League’s best record from the Baltimore Orioles. The 27-time World Series champions took the driver’s seat via a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Aaron Judge, in a display of his unmatched power, initiated the scoring with a first-inning home run that soared to the third deck at Target Field. The sheer magnitude of his 11th home run this season was staggering, with a distance of 467 feet and an exit velocity of 113 miles per hour.

The Yankees made it 2-0 after Anthony Volpe’s sacrifice fly sent Gleyber Torres safely across home plate. Giancarlo Stanton’s line drive single during the top of the third inning sent Judge home, giving the Yankees a three-run advantage.

Four innings later, Judge’s double drove Juan Soto home for what turned out to be the final count. Judge had four hits in as many at-bats, tallying two runs and two RBIs. Stanton and Alex Verdugo had two hits each, while Anthony Rizzo was the only Yankees player who did not register a hit.

Meanwhile, Marcus Stroman earned his third win after limiting the Twins to two hits in six innings. Luke Weaver and Caleb Ferguson followed Stroman’s lead to keep Minnesota from crossing home plate.

This victory improves the Yankees’ record in May 2024 to 10-3. They can sweep the Twins in their series closer on May 16 at 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time.
