At 23, shortstop Anthony Volpe is already making an impact for the New York Yankees. Last season, he won a Gold Glove Award after finishing with a .970 fielding percentage with 186 putouts and 357 assists in 560 chances.
This season, he's helping the Yankees with his bat, as he's currently on a 20-game winning streak. The streak started on May 7 when he had one hit in five at-bats in a 10-3 victory against the Houston Astros. Since then, he's had eight multiple-hit games, including a three-hitter versus the Tampa Bay Rays on May 11.
Volpe's streak occurred during the Yankees' series against the Astros, the Rays, the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox, the Seattle Mariners, and the San Diego Padres. He completed the 20-game streak after earning two hits in five at-bats during their series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on May 28.
MLB.com's Sarah Langs pointed out that Volpe has the third-longest hitting streak for a Yankees player aged 23 or younger. The legendary Joe DiMaggio had 22 and 21-game hitting streaks in 1937, making Volpe three games away from the franchise record.

He remains excellent defensively, with a .977 fielding percentage, courtesy of 91 putouts and 118 assists over 214 chances. His contributions helped the Yankees establish the best record in their division and second-best in the American League.
Volpe can continue his on-target hitting as the Yankees continue their road series against the Angels on May 30 at 9:38 p.m. Eastern Time.
