Andres Muñoz Shut Down Opponents in May

Last year, Seattle Mariners closing pitcher Andres Muñoz had 13 saves and a 2.94 ERA in 52 games. What a difference a year has made as the Mexican pitcher completed a scintillating May 2024.

Codify noted that Muñoz surrendered only one run while striking out 19 in 13.1 innings. He also completed all seven save opportunities, posting a 0.68 ERA throughout the month. The only run he surrendered was a Gunnar Henderson home run in the bottom of the ninth inning of their May 18 game.

Muñoz surrendered seven hits and one walk in 12 games. His impressive run improved his season stats to 12 saves, a 0.91 WHIP, and a 1.42 ERA in 24 games.

His performance helped the Mariners build a four-game advantage over the Texas Rangers in the American League West. They’ve won their last three games, including their May 31 clash with the Los Angeles Angels. Muñoz pitched in that game, giving up one run and earning two strikeouts.

The Mariners can continue their winning ways when they start a three-game road series against the Oakland Athletics, followed by a three-game schedule with the Kansas City Royals.
