The New York Yankees overtook the Philadelphia Phillies for the best record in the 2024 Major League Baseball season. They’ve taken the driver’s seat after completing a three-game sweep against the San Francisco Giants.
The Yankees earned their 42nd win in 61 matches after edging the Giants 7-5. New York's five-run ninth inning gave them the lead the home team couldn't overhaul. Juan Soto led the way with three runs, three hits, and three RBIs in five at-bats.
Meanwhile, Anthony Volpe registered two hits, two runs, and one RBI in their third game after his 21-game hitting streak ended. Aaron Judge contributed two hits and one run, while Alex Verdugo had two RBIs.

The Yankees are on a five-game winning streak, dating back to their last two games against the Los Angeles Angels. The streak helped them create a three-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East.
New York has the best overall record, one game ahead of the Phillies. The Aaron Boone-managed squad is on its way to surpassing Baseball Reference's prediction of 71.6 wins this season.
The Yankees can extend their winning streak as they commence a six-game home stand, starting with their three-game showdown against the Minnesota Twins. After which, the Yankees will host the Los Angeles Dodgers for another three-game series.
