The Chicago Bears brought back tight end Marcedes Lewis on a one-year deal. He will play in his 19th National Football League season if he makes the team.
Lewis is the only active player left from the 2006 NFL Draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the first round (28th overall) of that draft, and he ended up playing 12 seasons for the AFC South squad. In 2010, he earned his lone All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections after finishing the season with 58 receptions for 700 yards and ten touchdowns.
The Jaguars released him in March 2018. He signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers two months later. Lewis played five seasons in Green Bay, missing only one game during that stretch. However, he saw reduced playing time, leading to 57 receptions for 582 yards and six touchdowns during his Packers years.

Last year, he signed a one-year deal with the Bears and mainly served as a backup to Cole Kmet. In 17 games, he had four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Returning to Chicago will see Lewis play with a vastly revamped offensive unit. Even in his position, he would have to fight for minutes with Kmet and Gerald Everett.
In addition to Everett, the Bears welcomed top overall pick Caleb Williams, D’Andre Swift, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze to their roster.
