Reynaldo Lopez Is The New MLB ERA King

Several pitchers took the league by storm this season. Chris Sale and Max Fried are doing well, while Shota Imanaga and Yoshinobu Yamamoto have shown poise in their rookie MLB seasons. Even Ranger Suarez is suddenly unhittable after going 4-6 last year. But all those pitchers are behind Reynaldo Lopez regarding earned run average.

In the Atlanta Braves June 13 game against the Baltimore Orioles, Lopez surrendered two hits, one walk, and zero runs in six innings. He also struck out eight batters in the 6-3 victory. It's the second time this season that Lopez completed eight strikeouts in a game.

In addition to the team's success, Lopez's brilliant performance brought his ERA to a league-leading 1.69. As of June 13, he is only one of four pitchers with an ERA below 2.00: Suarez (1.81), Tarik Skubal (1.92), and Imanaga (1.96).

The victory also improved Lopez's record to 4-2 in 12 games started. He has a 1.04 WHIP and batters average .203 against him. Lopez has surrendered 22 walks, 15 runs, and four home runs this season. Conversely, he struck out 70 batters in 69.1 innings.

Lopez will likely retake the mound on June 19, the final day of their three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.
