Tashaun Gipson Receives Six-Game Suspension from NFL

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the National Football League handed a six-game suspension to safety Tashaun Gipson for violating the league’s policy on using performance-enhancing substances. However, the 33-year-old defensive back will serve this suspension once he signs with a team.

Gipson last played for the San Francisco 49ers, joining the squad on a one-year deal in 2022. He played the previous two NFL seasons with the Niners, tallying 121 tackles, 11 passes defended, six interceptions, and 1.5 sacks. He played 16 regular-season games for the 49ers last season, finishing with 60 tackles, a sack, and an interception.

Before joining the Niners, Gipson played for the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans. After going undrafted in 2012, the former Wyoming standout signed with the Cleveland Browns and played his first five seasons with the AFC North squad.

In addition to his on-field contributions, Gipson became a mentor to San Francisco's younger defensive backs, such as Charvarius Ward, Ambry Thomas, and Talanoa Hufanga. As he turns 34 in August, he remains a free agent heading into training camp season.

Gipson earned his lone Pro Bowl selection in 2014 after finishing with 52 tackles, eight pass deflections, a forced fumble, and a career-high six interceptions.
