Texans Re-Sign Veteran Pass Rusher Jerry Hughes

NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport shared that the Houston Texans have re-signed veteran defensive end Jerry Hughes. While the terms of his contract are unknown, he will return for his 15th NFL season. Hughes has been with the Texans since 2022, joining as a free agent after a nine-season stint with the Buffalo Bills.

In his first season with the Texans, Hughes had nine sacks, 35 tackles, and two forced fumbles in 17 games. He followed it up with three sacks, 32 tackles, and a forced fumble last season. Hughes would remain vital to the Texans' defense, even if they brought in Danielle Hunter, Foley Fatukasi, and Denico Autry to bolster their defensive line.

While Hughes has been an NFL veteran for over a decade, he’s still a reliable player. From 2012 to 2023, he missed only one regular-season game, a stark contrast from the eight games he missed over his first two seasons, both with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts made him a first-round selection in 2010 after he became a Unanimous All-American and Ted Hendricks Award winner in 2009. As of the 2023 season, Hughes has 69.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 479 tackles in 218 regular season games.
