Question

In the Super Bowl era, who is the only player to finish a playoff game with double-digit carries but finish with negative rushing yardage?

Answer

Barry Sanders. In 19994 at Lambeau Field, Sanders carried the ball 13 times for minus-1 yard in a 16-12 loss against the Packers. (These teams, of course, play on the same field tonight.) Only 10 other times in the Super Bowl era has this occurred, and all of the others were in the regular season. It’s happened only twice since the Sanders game. Reggie Bush carried 11 times for minus-5 against Tampa Bay in 2006, and Michael Pittman was limited to minus-1 yard on 11 carries by Jacksonville in 2000. Ottis Anderson was a notable back, and he finished with minus-10 yards on 11 carries in a game against Dallas in 1985 (St. Louis, oddly, won that game anyway). These games come using the sort tools at the Pro Football Reference website (which is excellent).
