Is Dak Prescott's Extension Next For The Cowboys?

After CeeDee Lamb signed his four-year, $136 million contract extension, Dallas Cowboys fans wonder if Dak Prescott’s new deal is next. However, with the 2024 NFL season days away, it seems like the three-time Pro Bowler will play the final season of the four-year, $160 million contract he signed in 2021.

While Prescott has been a professional by showing up to the Cowboys training camp at Oxnard without a new contract, could there be a brewing rift between him and Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones based on what The Athletic's Jon Machota tweeted?

On August 29, Machota quoted Jones regarding what the owner needs to see from Prescott to earn an extension. Jones responded:

"Dak's situation right now for me has more to do with our situation than it does with the merits of Dak Prescott being the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys."

However, Prescott might have alluded to that statement and responded with:

"I stopped, honestly, listening to things (Jerry Jones) says to the media a long time ago. It doesn't really hold weight with me."

Prescott is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro, leading the league in completions (410) and touchdowns (36). His career-high 69.5 completion percentage and 4,516 passing yards earned him a Second-Team All-Pro selection last year.

With Prescott heading into a contract year, he could leave the Cowboys next season for nothing. However, will Jones assign him the franchise tag, as they did in 2020 and 2021? The 2025 offseason for the Cowboys could offer more drama, like in Lamb's contract situation.
