The Josh Allen guy, he’s pretty good. And he’s been particularly productive when playing against Miami – historically so.
Writing up that capsule, I notice that he’s thrown for more than 300 yards in each of his last five games against them. He’s averaged 347 passing yards in those, with 15 touchdowns versus 4 interceptions. (Those games also include an average of 46 rushing yards, with another touchdown.)
The Bills and Dolphins see each other twice per year, and they also met in a playoff game in 2022. So since Mike McDaniel showed up in Miami, he hasn’t had much luck against Allen (which is a contributing factor to them having a third different defensive coordinator in three years).
This kind of thing doesn’t happen often. Flipping through the player profiles, I don’t think Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady ever passed for 300-plus in five straight games against a team in their own division.
Drew Brees seems to be the all-time leader in this regard. He went for 300-plus in six straight against Atlanta, and I’m guessing that the longest ever streak. Brees also had five-game streaks against the Bucs and Panthers.
But Allen is pretty special. Only question now is if he can stay healthy, given the way he recklessly throws himself. He dove into the end zone for a touchdown on Sunday that was really cool but also looked ill-advised. (That may be where he picked up the left hand injury.)
