Dolphins Sign QB Tyler Huntley Off Ravens Practice Squad

With Tua Tagovailoa dealing with another concussion, the Miami Dolphins desperately needed to bolster their quarterback depth chart. Enter Tyler Huntley, whom the Dolphins signed off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. If Tagovailoa misses some playing time, Huntley will compete with Skylar Thompson for the starting quarterback role.

The Ravens signed Huntley as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft. His first stint with the Ravens lasted for four seasons, and he had some positive moments while filling in for Lamar Jackson. Huntley had 221 completions for 1,957 yards and eight touchdowns during those four years with Baltimore.

The Cleveland Browns signed Huntley this offseason but released him before the 53-man roster cutdown deadline. He returned to the Ravens as their third-string quarterback before getting reassigned to the practice squad. The former Utah Ute will join the Dolphins, a team facing uncertainty at quarterback following Tagovailoa’s latest injury.

While Tagovailoa won’t contemplate retirement for now, his situation poses a massive void for the Dolphins, who gave Tagovailoa a massive four-year, $212.4 million extension. Unfortunately, Thompson might not be the guy after the Buffalo Bills dominated them in Week 2, 31-10.

Huntley gives them another quarterback option who could develop some chemistry with Miami's talented skill-position players, such as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and De’Von Achane. In doing so, he could save the Dolphins' season, which could go on free fall.
