Sunday morning injury updates

Bucs backs in, Mixon risky

The injury updates are filtering in, and there's still a lot of uncertainty. We can make guesses on some, and the likes of Schefter and Rapoport are doing just that, but a lot of players won't be certain until the inactives are released. But here's what we have so far.

  • Joe Mixon (ankle) is a big one, with his availability or absence affecting whether he or Cam Akers is viable against the Jaguars today. Ian Rapoport says Mixon is a gametime decision. If he's active, Akers shouldn't be used, but I would personally hesitate to use Mixon either. Might be best from a fantasy perspective if he's inactive, leaving one good option.

  • Rachaad White (illness) and Bucky Irving (hamstring) are both expected to be active. I would rather use White in PPR and Irving in standard (last week, Irving got more carries in the second half, but White got more passing downs work).

  • Alvin Kamara (hip/ribs) is expected to play. With him, I feel like his injuries are bumps and bruises and I would use him as normal. I'm shakier on Chris Olave (hamstring), just because it's the kind of injury that could be aggravated during the game if he pushes himself. He's being called a gametime decision. If he's active, I'd probably use him, but nervously -- if I had a comparable, fully healthy option, I'd lean that way instead.

  • Diontae Johnson (groin) is expected to play. Sounds like he's fine and I'd use him as if he's relatively healthy.

  • Deebo Samuel (calf) plans to play against the Patriots. I'd prefer not to use him, but the rankings suggest if he's active, he'll be a top 20 option. A little risky, but presumably the 49ers wouldn't have him active if they didn't think he could play.

  • Couple of quarterback injuries, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love are expected to play. Herbert I wouldn't be using anyway, for reasons outlined pretty much every week since Jim Harbaugh was hired. Love, I'd prefer to use a comparably ranked, fully healthy option. Love hasn't had a full practice since injuring his knee. But I just saw a clip of him walking into the stadium looking pretty much normal, so possible I'm overly worried. If he's your best ranked option, go ahead.

If I see other significant stuff in the next couple of hours, I'll post in the comments below. Obviously, there's some uncertainty with a lot of these injuries. General advice is if choosing between similarly ranked players, favor the healthy one.
