Eagles Release LB Devin White

The Philadelphia Eagles have released linebacker Devin White, who hasn’t played for the team this season. While he has been active for four games, the Eagles did not use him for a snap, mainly because he was on injured reserve.

The Eagles signed White to a one-year deal, hoping he could be a valuable asset for a squad that played in the Super Bowl LVII. However, younger linebackers like Nakobe Dean and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. have surpassed White in the depth chart.

Therefore, his stint with the Eagles has ended even before he plays any significant time for the squad. While he could be a liability on run defense, White can still become a high-value contributor at 26 years old.

Before joining the Eagles, White was a Pro Bowl linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that selected him fifth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was vital to the Bucs’ Super Bowl-winning run during the 2020 season, tallying 140 tackles and nine sacks (both career highs) that year.

However, during the 2023 offseason, White requested a trade that did not materialize. He played that year for the Buccaneers, finishing with 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. White’s release means he can immediately sign with any team interested.
