Reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey could finally have his 2024 debut after missing the San Francisco 49ers’ first eight games. His team opened his practice window, and barring any concerns; he could play in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After tallying 2,023 yards and 21 touchdowns from scrimmage last season, McCaffrey dealt with calf and Achilles injuries during the 49ers training camp. While those conditions forced him to miss preseason action, the team predicted that he could be healthy enough to play in their season opener against the New York Jets.
However, the pain worsened, leading the Niners to place him on injured reserve before Week 2. Being on IR meant that McCaffrey could not see action until as early as Week 6. Still, San Francisco did not deem him healthy enough to play during their first encounter with the Seattle Seahawks this season.

After three weeks, including their Week 9 bye, McCaffrey returns to football activity. This news should excite 49ers fans and McCaffrey’s fantasy football owners because he can deliver solid numbers when healthy.
More importantly, McCaffrey could help the Niners improve their 4-4 record before the bye. San Francisco has alternated wins and losses in the last five weeks, including their most recent 30-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
McCaffrey could help deliver the finishing blow to their opponents, especially because three of their four losses were by six points or less. His return is also welcome news to an offense that has Brandon Aiyuk out for the season, while Jordan Mason and Deebo Samuel are questionable for Week 10.
