The Washington Commanders added cornerback Marshon Lattimore and a future fifth-round pick on trade deadline day. In return, the New Orleans Saints received Washington’s third, fourth, and sixth-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 28-year-old defensive back is a four-time Pro Bowler, starting in his rookie season of 2017. He earned the other selections from 2019 to 2021. Likewise, he won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award after tallying a career-high five interceptions.
However, while he has been relatively healthy in his first four seasons, injuries have derailed his 2022 and 2023 seasons. This reality adds to the trade’s risk factor. Lattimore suffered a lacerated kidney that sidelined him for ten games. He returned during the Saints’ season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles and recorded an interception.

A year later, the Saints placed Lattimore on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. He played in only ten games, finishing with 48 tackles, eight passes defended, and one interception.
Lattimore will join a defensive secondary that has helped the Commanders rank fifth in passing yards allowed (183.3) per game. His new teammates like Benjamin St-Juste, Emmanuel Forbes Jr., and Mike Sainristil.
The trade also means that the Commanders will pay for the remainder of Lattimore’s existing contract. He has two years left in the five-year, $97.6 million deal he signed with the Saints in 2021.
