Thanksgiving Day 2024 NFL Winners Completed a Unique Feat

The National Football League offered a triple-header on Thanksgiving Day 2024, and all home teams were triumphant. As ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter pointed out, this is only the second time in NFL history that all home teams have won the Thanksgiving Day games since the league started the three-game format in 2006.

The Detroit Lions held on to a 23-20 victory over their division rivals, the Chicago Bears. While the Lions dominated the first half, the Bears clawed their way back but fell short. Jared Goff had 21 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while David Montgomery had 21 carries for 88 yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown added five catches for 73 yards.

The Lions clinched their tenth straight victory, tying a single-season franchise record for winning streaks established in 1934. Meanwhile, defeating the Bears improved Detroit’s standing to 11-1, which is good for the NFC’s top seed.

In the late afternoon game, the Dallas Cowboys secured their first home victory this season after defeating their NFC East rivals, the New York Giants. While the Giants scored ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to overhaul the Cowboys’ sizeable lead. Cooper Rush had 21 completions for 195 yards and a touchdown, while Rico Dowdle had 22 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Finally, the Green Bay Packers extended their winning streak to three games after defeating the Miami Dolphins. In freezing temperatures at Lambeau Field, Green Bay dominated Miami, a team with a three-game winning streak.

Home teams went a perfect 3-0 on Thanksgiving, with the Packers, Cowboys, and Lions winning. Since the NFL went to three Thanksgiving games in 2006, this was the second time in which the home team won all three games, joining 2013 when the Lions, Cowboys and Ravens all won.

The Packers have won seven of their last eight games and nine of their first 12 games this season. Jordan Love had 21 completions for 278 yards and two touchdowns, both received by Jayden Reed. Tucker Kraft led all Green Bay receivers with 78 yards on six catches.

The first time the three Thanksgiving Day hosts won their games was in 2013, when the Lions, the Cowboys, and Baltimore Ravens outclassed the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.
