Question
With Derek Carr out with a broken hand, the Saints are positioned to start at quarterback two different players who played their college football at the same school. Jake Haener has been New Orleans’ backup quarterback for most of the season, and he played his college ball at Fresno State. What was the last NFL team to do this? The school involved has had three quarterbacks picked in the first round in the last 10 years, but the answer comes from the 2011 season.
Answer
The mostly forgotten 2011 St. Louis Rams featured both Kellen Clemens and A.J. Feeley starting three games. The 2020 Patriots nearly did this, with the Auburn pair of Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham (Stidham attempted 44 passes but didn’t start any games).
