Sunday morning injury updates

Njoku gametime call

It's Sunday morning, and there are some updates to injury statuses. Not overly helpful, perhaps, but they are what they are.

  • David Njoku (hamstring) is being called a gametime decision. He'll test it out in pregame warmups and see if he's able to play. I believe Njoku is too risky to use even if he's active, while his backup Jordan Akins can't be considered unless Njoku is inactive (and I wouldn't really want to use him even then).

  • Bucky Irving (back) is expected to play for the Bucs. We went through this same drill a week ago, with Irving winding up active and playing, but leaving early. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... I'm not going to risk using Irving, and will take my chances that he has a good game and I regret it. I like Rachaad White more; the "current" ranking on Friday seems appropriate. Same game, Sterling Shepard (foot) is expected to play. Most should have better options.

  • Ladd McConkey (knee, shoulder) is questionable, and expected to work out pregame to see if he can play. This was the same situation with him last week, and he wound up inactive. Ian Rapoport's report indicates that the Chargers are "optimistic" that he can go. That's not good enough to count on him, but those hoping to start him might have him available. It's a 4 p.m. Eastern time game, so make sure you have an alternative in one of the later games to switch to if he winds up inactive. If he does sit out, Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston would look better.

  • Tony Pollard (ankle) is expected to play. A little risk in using Pollard, but there have been other games where he's been questionable and played throughout. The fill-in appeal of Tyjae Spears is nonexistent with Pollard active.

  • Breece Hall (knee) is expected to play. Because the Jets are out of the playoff picture, I'm not sure he'll play full-time. I think there's risk in using Hall, with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis also available (definitely don't use either backup with Hall active).

  • Kansas City activated Harrison Butker from IR and waived Matthew Wright. Butker will kick today for Kansas City at Cleveland. Concern for Butker and both passing games is rain is expected, and winds of up to 20 mph. These things were factored into the Friday rankings update.

  • For the Monday Bears-Viking game: Roschon Johnson (concussion) has been ruled out. D'Andre Swift (groin) is questionable. He got in a limited practice on Saturday. Swift facing a very strong Vikings run defense while hurt is not a good option.

  • Couple of injury updates from yesterday to defensive players: Maxx Crosby of the Raiders and Trevon Diggs of the Cowboys will undergo season-ending surgery. Their absences are beneficial for the Falcons' and Panthers' offenses this week, though not game-changers (those defenses are bad even with them).

As always, if I see something notable before the early kickoffs, I'll post in the comments below.
