As a runner, Anthony Richardson has been everything folks were hoping for. He’s averaged 48 rushing yards in his 10 full games, and he’s scored 5 TDs in his last five. Around the goal line, he’s like another Cam Newton.
But as a passer, Richardson remains very much a work in progress. He’s averaged only 174 passing yards in his 10 full games, with four more interceptions than touchdowns. He hasn’t thrown for more than 212 yards in a game.
Richardson throws the ball fine; there’s nothing wrong with his arm. But he just hasn’t played a lot of football. He’s not there yet in terms of figuring out where to go with the ball.
He’s played 10 full games, and in only of them did he complete more than half of his passes. That puts him on pace to become just the fifth quarterback in the 32-team era to start at least half of his team’s games while completing fewer than half of his passes.
The only such quarterback with a lower completion percentage was another Florida guy – Tim Tebow.
