Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater returns to the National Football League after signing with the Detroit Lions. The playoff-bound team placed him on their practice squad before elevating him to the active roster.
Bridgewater is fresh off leading his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern, to a Florida high school football state championship while outscoring playoff opponents 262-12. After winning that title, he will suit up for the team that signed him last year.

While Bridgewater’s return beefs up Detroit’s quarterback depth chart, it’s still uncertain if he will be Jared Goff’s backup or be third in the rotation behind Hendon Hooker. However, his football wisdom could help the Lions navigate what’s turning out to be a competitive NFC playoff tournament.
Bridgewater has played for six NFL teams, including the Lions. The Minnesota Vikings selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The former Louisville standout earned his only Pro Bowl selection a year later. After playing four seasons with the Vikings, Bridgewater joined the New Orleans Saints, where he lasted for two seasons.
After New Orleans, Bridgewater had one-year stints with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins. He was also slated to play for the New York Jets but did not make it to the active roster.
Teddy Bridgewater has 1,372 completions for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. He also has 11 rushing touchdowns out of 844 yards.
